Streaming and conference call platforms remain front and center in usage during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the latest Tech Tracker from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA).

The majority (54%) of U.S. households used streaming video services and 34% streamed music online last week.

Housebound consumers also are staying connected, with nearly half (45%) using social media platforms and 23% using video and conference call platforms like Zoom.

During the last week, 19% of households purchased a smart home security camera and 18% bought a smartphone.

Within the next 12 months, a third of U.S. households plan to purchase more tech products compared to last year, according to CTA.

“So far, there’s been consistent tech buying habits during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Lesley Rohrbaugh, director of research, CTA.

Buying things from home continues, with 27% ordering takeout from nearby restaurants and 22% ordering non-food items online.
